BISMARCK, ND – North Dakota Housing Finance Agency (NDHFA) is now accepting applications from homeless service providers seeking funding through the Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) and North Dakota Homeless Grant (NDHG).

“NDHFA’s collaboration with local service providers is essential to reaching as many people as possible,” said Brandon Dettlaff, NDHFA executive director. “These funds greatly enhance the ability of our homeless service providers to deliver essential care and support, directly impacting the lives of those experiencing homelessness in North Dakota communities."

ESG and NDHG funds provide financial support to eligible local government and nonprofit organizations who offer emergency shelter, supportive services, and financial assistance to individuals experiencing homelessness or at-risk of homelessness. Funds may be used to:

  • Engage homeless individuals and families living on the street.
  • Improve the number and quality of emergency shelters for homeless individuals and families.
  • Assist in the operation of shelters.
  • Provide essential services to shelter residents.
  • Rapidly rehouse individuals and families experiencing homelessness.
  • Prevent families and individuals from becoming homeless.

The application process for awarding funds is competitive and based on the selection criteria outlined in the allocation plan. The deadline for submissions is 5 p.m. CDT on May 29, 2026. Approximately $486,000 is available through ESG and $5 million through NDHG.
